A Look at Why Useful Drugs are Illegal — Is this a Manufacturer’s War?

Posted on December 8th, 2006 in Allsorts by admin

Illegal Drugs – When times were simpler and we were not as concerned with the fast paced environment circling around us, we cared about the things that were most important to us. Family, shelter, and making sure that we had the right types of medicine to satisfy our pain. These medications, such as Peyote and Cannabis, were continuously used for centuries, as they were some of the best working drugs known to man. Yet as time went on and the drug manufacturing industry emerged, we no longer had the opportunity to use such helpful
resources. In some cases, many people feel that this was due to the fact that drug manufacturing companies felt threatened and didn’t want to battle with the competition.

Peyote, a spineless cactus that has mind blowing effects, is generally illegal in most countries. While it was used for many purposes hundreds of years ago, it has since been banned. Regarded as a plant with an abundance of power by the Native American Indians, this drug was used to cure an array of illnesses. Additionally, it was used to reduce appetite and prevent joint pain. After all, during these times, people walked great distances and needed some sort of drug to be applied directly to the foot or throughout the aching body. With the ability for Peyote to be applied to deep wounds and cuts, it was clear why millions of people used such a drug. However, others felt that this plant was being used for psychological effects — ones that resembled other highly illegal content.

Another largely popular drug that is now banned, is Cannabis. Also referred to as Hemp or Marijuana, this plant is highly regarded as illegal and dangerous for the population. However, controversy has recently erupted, due to the fact that Cannabis is very effective for people who are suffering from specific illnesses. For this reason, 11 American states have declared it legal, as long as it is used for medicinal purposes. Furthermore, while many continue to ban it, Cannabis gives cancer and AIDS victims with a sense of hope. Alleviating pain and reducing nausea after chemotherapy treatment is extremely helpful to those who are in need of it. Still, drug manufacturing companies seem to be against it. Perhaps it is because it can also have psychological effects — such as hallucinations, a meditation-like state, and overall calmness. Is there a reason why they do not want the competition?

In many people’s eyes, these drugs are very helpful. They still could be used for medicinal purposes and some feel that it would be great if they were available over the counter. For people who are suffering from pain, it is clear that such drugs would work wonders. Manufacturing companies most likely know this, and thus do not want to go down the drain with their own drugs, if Cannabis or Peyote were to ever be on the market. We all need calmness and order in our lives — which is why thousands of people feel that these drugs should be used freely. Regardless of controversial opinions, drug manufacturing companies do not seem keen on the idea. They enjoy their current position and do not want that to falter, just because two popular drugs used could change medicine forever.

Vanessa Fox Interview

Posted on December 8th, 2006 in Allsorts by admin

Interesting interview with Vanessa Fox of Google Sitemaps.
I know it’s a bit off topic for this blog but I thought it’s quite some valuable insider information about Google and how they look at certain criteria of your website. What I found quite interesting is that Google doesn’t seem to care about your code. They are simply skipping all your code and only looking for usable text. According to Vanessa Fox it doesn’t matter where the text is on your page or how much code you have. Also very interesting the part about duplicate content on your own site. Would have been nice to get more info about your sites content duplicated on other websites.
Check out the video interview below.

Diabetes

Posted on December 7th, 2006 in Allsorts by admin

With an abundance of fast food restaurants, late night television shows, and non stop schedules, it is no surprise that millions of people are battling obesity. What is even more startling is that many of these people are also suffering from diabetes, currently one of the most common diseases in the United States. Studies are now showing that obesity and bad eating habits actually contribute to these forms of diabetes. Unfortunately, with our fast paced lifestyles, there are no signs of these behaviors stopping any time soon.

Diabetes is more than just an ailment that is annoying to deal with. It is a serious illness that deals with overly high blood sugar. According to Wikipedia, Diabetes “results either from inadequate secretion of the hormone insulin, an inadequate response of target cells to insulin, or a combination of these factors.” While Type 2 diabetes is more common in adults, there are young children who have Type 1 diabetes. This requires insulin shots and in some cases, is much more serious.

So what exactly causes the illness? Many physicians are beginning to think that obesity and junk food are contributing to Diabetes. Due to the fact that the average American child consumes dozens of snacks that are high in fat while watching television, shows that eating habits may actually affect these diseases. For instance, if a child eats McDonald’s everyday for lunch, chances are his body is going to start resisting insulin. As a result, he develops extremely high blood sugar, as well as increased blood pressure. No matter how healthy you are, this is certainly not a good lifestyle to lead. If it continues into adulthood, chances are heart problems and more hazardous diabetes will be underway.

If diabetes runs in your family and you have children, you need to be aware of this connection. It is important that you avoid fast foods, or at least keep it to a bare minimum. By replacing the high in fat foods with vegetables, proteins, and fruits, you should be changing your child’s path. If you do not listen to these reports, you most likely will have to start giving your child insulin shots. It’s quite clear that fast food is not good for anyone. While it is convenient and delicious, it only harms your body in the long run.

Unfortunately, not much is being done to inform parents and children about this diabetes risk. It is rarely being brought up in health education, nor is it being presented on television broadcasts. As a result, we continue to feed our children the greasy hamburgers during the break between soccer and ballet. Though we think this is pleasing our children, it is only ruining their health. For this reason, it is crucial to stand back and look at the entire picture. Focus on healthy eating and exercise. Perhaps you can beat genetics if you have a long family history of diabetes. By keeping on top of the illness, you may just win.

Natural Food – Why are Companies Scrutinized for Making Money?

Posted on December 5th, 2006 in Alternative Health by admin

From the time we are old enough to talk, we immediately learn about the nutritional value of foods. In preschool we are taught to eat plenty of apples and grains. In elementary and high school, we try out best to stick to the food pyramid. Of course we know that there are certain fruits and vegetables that contain important ingredients such as vitamins, enzymes, and a plethora of other beneficial minerals. Nevertheless, when natural food companies come into play, we automatically turn the other cheek, assuming they are only in it for profit. After all, the majority of us have experienced the infamous infomercials on early Saturday morning TV.

It is quite a depressing thought to think that there are so many money making schemes in the world. From “get rich quick” packages to weight loss pills that claim to melt the fat right off. Why are there so many and why are we so inclined to buy every morsel off of the shelf? Unfortunately, natural supplement companies may have come too late into the game. We are so caught up with the other “scams,” that we forget to realize that there actually may be some legit products out there for our benefit. Could that really be? A product that is designed for overall great health – nutrients, minerals and vitamins, without the risk of danger?

In some cases, there are actually companies that care more about your health, than the size of their wallet. For instance, Noni Juice contains all of the nutrients that we need for a great lifestyle. With dozens of vitamins and natural juices, it is no wonder why thousands of people feel amazing when taking such a product. It not only enhances how we feel – from the inside out, but it continuously prevents joint pain, boosts our immune system, and adds natural energy to our system. That’s right – no longer do we have to rush to the store and pick up a can of coffee or a gallon of Red Bull energy drinks.

The reason why people are so fearful and skeptical is because this is all we are used to. We constantly see advertisements claiming to work wonders, but we rarely see any of them perform well. Therefore, we don’t expect many miracles. As a result, we pretend to not acknowledge products like noni juice and automatically assume that they are just another money making scheme. Luckily, this is tremendously far from the truth. Once we come to our senses and realize that these nutrients actually do help, then the natural health companies will not be under so much scrutiny. Moreover, we have learned throughout our entire lives that vitamins and minerals are essential for our bodies. Why is it so hard to believe that a product like Noni Juice would be false in its ways? They are merely trying to incorporate these nutrients into our lives. For this reason, not all natural supplements are money makers. Though there are many on the market, it is important to weed out the bad, and focus on what is best for your body.

Fast Paced Lifestyles: Are they making us Sick?

Posted on December 1st, 2006 in Allsorts by admin

Today we live in a world where convenience is everything. We speed to work, we go through the drive thru at McDonalds, and spend our weekend evenings on the couch, instead of at the gym. With a continuous cycle of fast paced routines and little time to slow down, the world today is becoming too much to handle. In many people’s eyes, our lifestyles are actually breaking us down – mentally, physically, and emotionally. Are these unhealthy habits making us sick?

Since the nativity of the automobile, accomplishing tasks faster has clearly become simpler. We not only are able to drive to work, bring our kids to school, and get where we need to be, but it does not waste time. After all, time is our very enemy, thus it allows us to quickly pick up groceries around the corner if need be. No more walking to do errands or worrying about all of the time lost, because that observably would put a strain on our schedule.

While our means of transportation are actually quite convenient, it is actually taking quite a toll on our bodies. When there was no form of automobile transportation, people were forced to either walk or ride a bike. Though it took longer to accomplish tasks, fitness was actually being performed and obesity was not such a large factor. Unfortunately, as our fast paced lifestyles only get worse, there is no room for exercise or healthy habits. By rushing around all day and driving to work and to do errands, our exercise has diminished. Meal times quickly come around and we often find ourselves stopping at the nearest fast food joint, hoping it doesn’t stick to our hips by the time we head home. When we finally have time to take a breath, the last thing on our minds are treadmills and weights. As a result, obesity becomes a larger factor, due to our fast paced lives.

Although transportation is one large factor that influences the way we look, there are other issues. For instance, due to the fact that we are so busy, we do not have enough time to eat healthy and get enough sleep. At some point these unhealthy habits catch up with us, and we are left feeling tired, frustrated, and unwell. Once our bodies start to feel the results of no sleep and junk food every day, our immune system starts to slow down. We then begin to get sick and because of our daily routines, we do not have enough time to recover and continue.

Regrettably, our lifestyles are indeed making us sick. We are not only losing sleep, gaining excessive weight due to fast food restaurants, and feeling run down, but we are mentally drained. While productivity is important and encouraged, too much can actually harm our health. It is important to maintain a balance and realize that rushing through life isn’t always smart. We want to live long enough to enjoy the finer aspects of life, and take a breather every once in a while. If we don’t get out of the car and exercise, our lives are seriously at risk. It is time to turn off the car, walk to work, and bring a salad.
