Stories of Alternative Medicines?

Hi everyone! Have you ever had an experience with alternative medicine? When you were sick, have your parents ever fed you some weird medicine out of a bottle but you were feeling better the next day?
Hi everyone! Have you ever had an experience with alternative medicine? When you were sick, have your parents ever fed you some weird medicine out of a bottle but you were feeling better the next day?
If so, I’m asking for your help. I’m collecting stories, remedies and recipes from all cultures for my final project in one of my English class. They can be as long or as short as you like. All I ask is for a name and where you’re from. You can post them here or email them to me.
Thanks in advance!

Hi I’m from India. Our mother used to give us turmeric added to luke warm milk for cough and cold when we where young. I don’t remember how old I was when she started giving it to us. But it is effective and safe remedy specially when taken at night time.
Another treatment for common cold which we still use at home is with basil leaves extract and honey.
Hope this helps you.
Bye

It was alternative medicine that got my son and myself off the ritalin drugs. My son is 14 yrs old. he had been on concerta(form of riatlin) form the age of 6 because his teachers felt he needed it. At the age of 12 he still complained of stomach cramps. Sometimes they were so bad he called me to pick him up form school. I finally had enough of him suffering form the side effects which medical doctors told me were ok. I did some research. and had a blood test done on him to determine his supplement deficiencies. for the next year i supplemented him with what he was requires while still continuing to see his medical doctor. they gave his prescription monthly which i stopped filling and after that first year of them monitoring him they felt he had done better in the one year than he had in the past and felt he no longer needed the medicine. It was that that turned me over to alternative medcine ever since.

I’m from a very traditional Chinese family and we’re too poor to afford health care so once I got a really bad fever and my grandma fixed up a batch of weird herbs. It made the fever worse. So I had to go to the doctor and he said that if I kept on taking the same herbal medicine, my condition would probably get worse. Take it from me, natural doesn’t always mean good. I was forced to drink a cup of all natural hemlock when I spoke out against the Athen’s philosophy and you know the rest of the story…..(look at my sn)
