Becoming More Conscious of Cholesterol

Posted on April 1st, 2007 in Conditions and Diseases by admin

High cholesterol is a blood condition that usually results from a poor diet. Those who have a diet with too much fast food and trans-fatty snacks run a greater risk of building up high levels of cholesterol. People aged over 20 years old need to be cautious about their cholesterol levels. More often than not, the most common heart conditions can trace back to high cholesterol as a major contributing factor, if not the primary contributor.

In order to maintain low levels of cholesterol, it is important become extra conscious of what types of food you consume. The best place to start is to cut out saturated fat from your diet as much as possible. When you’re at the grocery store, read the labels on each item to how much fat is contained in each serving. Always remember to steer clear of products with high amounts (or any) saturated fat and cholesterol. Unsaturated fat is much safer to consume since it generally doesn’t lead to high cholesterol. It is also very important to add more fiber to your diet to help keep your cholesterol levels at bay. For example if you normally buy white bread, replace it with a darker bread such as whole wheat or rye. There are also several fruit juices with healthy amounts of fiber. Probably the best cholesterol fighting juice is noni juice. The high amount of plant sterols found in noni juice is rich in dietary fiber. Even people who already had high cholesterol levels have used noni juice to significantly lower it. In general, high cholesterol could easy be avoided by cutting out saturated fat and adding more fiber in our diet.

Our body needs cholesterol to properly function. It is used to produce vitamin D, hormones, and to aid in digesting fatty substances. However, excess cholesterol in the bloodstream will build up in the arteries and block the supply oxygen and nutrients. This could eventually lead to a variety of heart complications. It would be a healthy choice to take natural measures to prevent high levels of cholesterol, while at the same time reaping all of the other benefits that come with a natural diet.
