Naturally Soothing a Sore Throat
When coming down with a cold or even worse, the flu, the most painful symptom is the sore throat. It becomes difficult to eat, and what you are able to eat is limited to bland foods that won’t further irritate your throat. Even drinking a cold glass of water can be a painful task. Whatever the cause of the sore throat may be, it is always best to treat the overall illness. However, sore throat symptom should have some sort of relief at the same time.
There are multiple methods for relieving a sore throat. The more common treatments are drinking hot liquids, gargling, eating soft foods, antiseptic spray, and cough drops. Green tea is a suitable hot liquid for soothing a sore throat, although you should stay away from coffee and hot chocolate, as they could weaken the immune system. Gargling two or three times a day can also help, and using warm water mixed with salt helps cleans away excess mucus. Eating soft foods help reduce the amount of irritation, and it’s probably the best idea to stick with mild foods such as yogurt, bananas, and mashed potatoes. Antiseptic spray can temporarily relieve a sore throat, but far too many people experience an upset stomach after ingesting the liquid in the spray. Honey is a more natural antiseptic throat treatment that’s been used for years. Throat lozenges can provide temporary relief as well. Other than using a typical brand name cough drop, many people now use Noni Lozenges as a natural alternative. Noni Lozenges contain noni juice, which helps reduce inflammation of the throat. They also contain honey, which was previously mentioned as a natural antiseptic. The menthol crystals in Noni Lozenges also help other cold or flu symptoms such as coughing and chest congestion.
Since the sore throat is usually caused by a viral infection (and sometimes bacterial), treating the illness at hand should be your first priority. Sometimes the throat can be irritated by pollutants in the air, or chemicals. Either way, soothing a sore throat with natural remedies can provide much relief and even help recover from illness altogether.
