Dealing with Stress

Posted on January 7th, 2007 in various by admin

Stress is something that is difficult to avoid in today’s world. It’s that black monster that attaches itself to your back every time you think you’re finally carefree. Stress from work, family, financial troubles and more pile up causing visible as well as invisible effects. In this age of modern medical technology, scientists and doctors are learning more about the effects stress can have on the human body. It not only affects us mentally but physically as well.

A very common repercussion of stress is a weak immune system. The body is pouring its energy into this monster called stress, stealing away from the system that keeps us healthy. Colds, infections, the flu and more are more easily contracted when a person is under a high amount of stress. The symptoms of these ailments linger longer in the body when stress is present and consistent.

A decrease in energy can also be caused by prolonged stress. Chronic fatigue syndrome can develop if the stress continues, subsequently decreasing your quality of life. You wake up in the morning feeling as if your day should be over before it’s even begun. You barely have the energy to get through you day, let alone go out with friends or spend time with your family. Chronic fatigue syndrome can take fun and color out of your life.
Several other factors can be traced back to stress, such as high blood pressure, irritability, even physical pain. To stay fit and enjoy life, you need to decrease, if not extinguish stress in your life. To begin, sit down and make a list of stressful factors in your life. Next, sort them into lists of aspects of your life that you can and cannot control. Take the side that you can’t control and throw it in the back of your mind. If you can’t do anything to change them, why stress? With what you can control, organize your thoughts. Make more lists, organize a calendar, and plan out how to deal with each factor, taking them one at a time.

Yoga and Pilates are becoming popular as relaxation exercises for the body as well as the mind. Men; don’t dear. These aren’t just for the ladies. Classes at local gyms or in home tapes are used by both genders to relax. The smooth motions and the gentle flow of the limbs is enough to relax even the biggest stress ball.
Medicinal aids for relieving stress are becoming increasingly popular. However, many of these chemicals can be habit forming or harmful to the body. As an alternative, noni juice, a supplement taken from a tropical fruit is also known as “aspirin of the ancient.” This completely natural fruit is known to help relieve the common symptoms of stress, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, high blood pressure and a weak immune system.
It is a known fact that stress damages both the mind and body. Often times it is a struggle to even deal with the pain. For this reason, indulge yourself with mind calming exercises and natural substances. You may just find that your quality of life has changed for the better.
