New Zealand Weather
Land of the Long White Cloud they call New Zealand over here and I have to say that is a very accurate description of the weather here. Being now for over 11 years in New Zealand, I learned not to listen to the weather forecast on the news at all. New Zealand does not have a large temperature range, lacking the extremes one finds in most continental climates. However, the weather can change unexpectedly — as cold fronts or tropical cyclones quickly blow in. Having a very narrow land mass and surrounded by 2 oceans the weather is in constant change it seems. You do however get used to it after a while.
A bit more of a concern is the ozone layer (or the lack of) above New Zealand. In the summer months it is highly recommended not to expose yourself to the sun without any protection. On average it takes about 10 minutes I believe before you have caught a sun burn. New Zealand also has one of the highest rates on skin cancer in the world which is due to the ozone hole expanding in this part of the world.
Despite all this, I quite enjoy living over here. As I said before, you get used to it.

I have a friend from overseas who has a climate that varies from -30 in the winter to +35 in the summer. He would appreciate a country that has not such a large temperature extreme. Would also like to be close to 2 oceans as the nearest one to him is 9 hours drive.

I come from a place with a very continental climate. It gets to 35 in the summer and -30 in the winter (occasionally). And it’s true, I live FAR away from the ocean. But I enjoy the change in the seasons, and it makes me appreciate summer all that much more when you are sitting in 30 cm of snow and -30 degrees.
