I come from a place with a very continental climate. It gets to 35 in the summer and -30 in the winter (occasionally). And it's true, I live FAR away from the ocean. But I enjoy the change in the seasons, and it makes me appreciate summer all that much more when you are sitting in 30 cm of snow and -30 degrees.

I have a friend from overseas who has a climate that varies from -30 in the winter to +35 in the summer. He would appreciate a country that has not such a large temperature extreme. Would also like to be close to 2 oceans as the nearest one to him is 9 hours drive.
